But I Love Them...

I was going to the store this morning after I dropped my daughter off at school. I was wearing my faithful track pants with a hole in the knee. It is a memorable hole because it is there from the time a glass shelf fell on my knee causing me to have stiches for the first time. I am not particularly proud of that fact but I love my track pants! My husband was coming in as I was walking out of the door and he took one look at me and said, Do you think that you could get another year out of those pants? Well I was insulted and his sarcasm was most unbecoming! As I said I love my track pants… Do you have an item of clothing that you cannot let go of? I think most of us do...Surely...I love my track pants...

I have some favorite tee shirts that I've had for a long time, that are faded and losing their shape, but I still wear them from time to time because I like them. I also have an old pair of jeans that I should have gotten rid of a long time ago but I don't. [spalladino]
So nice to know that I am not alone! I feel comfortable in my old pants and because I work from home I am so used to comfort that I can't be bothered dressing up most of the time! I'll have to tell my husband to take me somewhere nice if he wants to see me looking better! Thanks for responding spalladino!happy [paula27661]

Oh forgive the hubby. They don't have sentiments. sad I have so many things not only clothes, of sentimental value. My house is a collection of such things. The family feels I'm a bit mad. I know as soon as I die, they will throw them in the dustbin. But till then I collect. My children's first birthday dress, their report cards, my grandmother's letter she wrote 20 yrs back before she died, the first ever saree my hubby bought me, all are there as Antique collection. I value them. Keep the track pants, and ignore the comments.hugshugs [tingtong]
Thanks tingtong! I have little baby dresses that my daughter used to wear that I cannot bear to part with and I am an avid collector of cat ornaments, they're all over the house and I'm sure when I'm gone my daughter will get rid of the lot but, like you, I enjoy collecting them while I'm around! I will keep the pants, for sure. Thanks for responding!happy [paula27661]

I have some clothes i like very much, though my parents tell me that they are very old fanshioned and should be thrown away. But i never mind, until now i still wear them, haa, just because I love them. [Hujing]
Well that's the point, if you love them and you are the one wearing them, it should not bother anyone else! I love comfort and you can't beat some old things for comfort. I like the fact that you don't have to be careful with old clothes, anything goes...Thanks for being here Hujing happy [paula27661]

hi paula27661 oh yes its a dark blue denim skirt that fits me nicely but has a pattern of small white holes in the left bottom side of the skirt/ they actually look like little white daisies so since people seem to think this is really there on purpose I keep on wearing my skirt, its comfortable and has gotten compliments, since they do not really look closely or they would see the flowers are actually little holes in the cloth that has frayed white fringes so they look sort of embroidered. he he he.lollollol [Hatley]
Now that has just given me an idea! I have a denim jacket that has a hole caused though a burn. It's is on the left side towards the top. A daisy embroidered around the edges would look perfect! [mysdianait]

lolI am like you. When I am comfortable with something I will wear it until it looks like the doormate rag. The more soiled it is the more I find comfort wearing them. I have one batik sarong given by my mom which has undergone the taste of time. The print is no longer visible and there is one big hole which I have patched up many times but I always like to wear it at home. I feel that I find my real identity by wearing that piece of sarong though I have many more nicer ones but this one couldn't leave me. To me it is like the fame faded jeans that never go out of date. lol [zandi458]
I understand perfectly what you mean zandi. I have several items of clothing like that. I find that I rarely give clothes away to charity because I tend to wear things to death and by the time I've finished with them nobody would touch them! Thanks for responding my friend!happy [paula27661]

I have this one shirt in a beautiful Native American design and bright coloring...it's really worse for wear as it has holes in in yet I refuse to throw it out. I don't wear it outside since it is so tacky looking but will wear in at home...just can't give it uprolleyes [pyewacket]
I hope that hole across the seat wasn't draughty Alice whistle Great for exhaust fumes to escape though! rasplol [mysdianait]

Yes, I can really relate to this. My favourite demin jeans had an "accident" last week. They are not really full length jeans. They asre those light weight 3/4 length pants that I love wearing in summer. Anyway, I was rushing around as usual and I accidently knocked myself into the corner of the large bird cage. The corner is metal and sharp. It ripped a large tear in my jeans. Not only that, it left a large nasty bruise on my leg which is still there. I was very disappointed as I love those pants. [jennybianca]
Geez...Don't let a little tear stop you from wearing them (LOL)! As Pye mentioned people pay a lot of money for ripped jeans that look one hundred years old! When I cut my knee I was more upset that my pants got ripped than my bleeding knee! It's funny how we feel so much more comfortable in certain items of clothing than we do in others! Thanks for being here Jenny!happy [paula27661]

my policy is as long as it still fits, i like the color and design and it's appropriate to the place and occassion, i'll keep wearing it. in other words, i'm not a fashionista. years ago, i had this pale green denim jeans which my mother hated when it faded to white. i stopped wearing it for a while, probably a year, probably to plese her, probably because it got snug as well, i can't really remember anymore. when i wore it again, she thought it was new and she liked it! but this was the one you wanted me to throw away! i reminded her. i'm sure there's something your dear husband can't part away with that you're eager to get your hands on when he's not looking. haha! [binggaling]
You're right there! He has a few ensembles that make me cringe but he seems to love them so I don't say anything...Maybe I should...I am not a fashionista either because comfort is my priority. I will keep my track pants, why not I say? Thanks for a great response binggaling!happy [paula27661]

Hiya Paula hugs You are quite right to hold on to your holy pants lol. I feel very comfortable in a pair of trousers that I wear most, but they are starting to wear on the inner seam and have been sewn a few times. They are also faded and thin (threadbare) but I love them! They seem to adjust with my weight going up and down too, because they have an elastic waistband. I've had other items of clothing that I've not wanted to let go of, but there comes a time when you just HAVE to cry Close your eyes when you're putting them in the bin! Alice_in_webland happy [Alice_in_webland]
lol I wasn't entirely sure of the spelling for something that was full of holes but after checking I do now see that it should be 'holey' rasp ... but yes, suitable attire for a Sunday rofl [Alice_in_webland]

I used to have a particular salwar which was my favorite. I used to wear it to college very often and my mother and sister used to make fun of me for that. I don't have it anymore because I spoiled it by over using it. It was a very nice salwar with black dots. The black dots were arranged in a particular order, which made teh salwar look extra pretty. [daliaj]
It sounds like you miss it! It's so easy to become attached to favourite items of clothing. New ones just don't seem to cut it somehow, they are just not the same! It takes a while for things to become old faves! Thanks for joining my discussion daliaj!happy [paula27661]

I do.. I do...have some very old jeans that I just love. They are so comfortable because I guess I've had them so long that they are molded into the shape of my body..LOL..I don't care one bit to wear them out either...holes and all. [JenInTN]
I love old jeans too. rofl [zed_k4]

When I was 12 I had a favorite pair of jeans that were out at the knees. My mother did a marvelous job of patching them up, but it would only last so long, and she'd have to patch them again. I guess she got tired of patching them because she wouldn't let me take them to camp and when I got back two weeks later, they were gone. sad Wah! [BarBaraPrz]
Oh no! Fancy coming back from camp to find your favourite pair of jeans gone forever! That is heart breaking stuff, seriously! I would have been broken hearted even as an adult! Isn't it funny how attached we get to pieces of clothes that fit well and are comfortable? Thanks BarbaraPrz, I appreciate the response!happy [paula27661]

Oh goodness me! I don't know where to start! I have a track suit that is falling apart. I love it! I even bought another one exactly the same intending to replace it but the newer one never seems to get that 'worn in' feel to it so I still keep using the older one. I have patched it and redone the seams and it really should getthe boot - but I can'! It has become part of me and I am always in it indoors. I have a pair of cotton trousers with a flower print on them that are decades old. They are faded but I adore them. My son was looking through some old photos when he was here recently and he noticed that I am wearing them in many of the photos taken through the years. That's proof enough too! lol [mysdianait]
With a flower print? That's so cute!niceday [zed_k4]

Well paula!Your husbans had a point there isn't it ?[when he saw you wearing a pant with a hole in the knee somewhere outside ?]If it were just an ordinary nightwear or rough wear then he may not have said this.My husband and son make these remarks and say that I ought to get 10 more nighties instead of my favourite sarees whenever they see me in a favourite old nightie of mine. I cannot let go of my old soft cotton nightdresses. [kalav56]
A favourite is a favourite what can I say? I wear my track pants to the local shops, the school which is across the road from our house and of course at home! I love my track pants as I said they are the most comfortable piece of clothing I own! I will ditch them one day but not yet...Thsnks Kalav!happy [paula27661]

I do have a T-shirt with a Rocky Balboa silhouette on the front, doing a pose from the film I cannot remember when or even where I got the shirt from, and it is starting to show it's age, but I just cannot get rid of it, and still wear it (indoors only, thoughlol). [MrKennedy]
Rocky Balboa silhouette? That's really awesome.. [zed_k4]

I can see where both of you are coming from .Your husband wants his wife to look good at all times and in his mind those track pants arent bringing out the best in you .On your hand though I understand the sentimental attachment and there are things that I too have worn and have cherished for sentimental reasons even though they are way past their best.I had a watch that I just loved because I first wore it to look for a young lady that I like dback in time .The band of the watch became worn and tattered from overwearing but I still wore because of the sentimental attachments but after a time it became so ugly that that I just had to put it down .Now that doesnt mean that it is not any more sentimental to me ,it still is but its appearance was just not up to standard ,so on tht grounds I had to put it down .I am sayin all that to say this ,sometimes we just have to realise when to part ways with some things inspite of teh sentimentality .We can keep it in a safe place and look at it but it may have to be in a more private setting [ronnyb]
I can see your point ronnyb and I know that my track pants don't have too much longer to live (LOL)! My husband is not too worried about it although he did have a need to be amusing and make a sarcastic comment! I am not quite ready to ditch them yet but I am wearing in a new pair to take their place, for now they are still my favourite! YThanks so much for leaving a response!happy [paula27661]

Hello Paula. This is a good discussion. I remember one time when I did not want to let go my favorite pair of shorts. My favorite pairs of Bermuda, two of them. Or what they call khakis. They are worn out and looked washed out but I really love wearing them much, at home. So that's something that I cannot let go of easily. [zed_k4]
You are right.. the older they get, the better to wear.. LOL.. [zed_k4]

I don't have a item like that but My husband had a T Shirt he loved to wear to just lounge in and sometimes go out into public with. I hated it! so one day I noticed he had a little tare in is shirt, while he was wearing it I grabbed the small hole and ribbed the shirt right off his body. boy was he mad... I laughed and eventually he laughed... I felt bad but it was funny to me because the shirt was so ugly but he loved it LOL [AcousticSoul]
OOHHH! I am not sure I would ever dare to do that! How brave of you! My husband has T-shirts like that which he loves and they come complete with holes and permanent stains that won't wash out so come to think of it, he really has no right to make smart alec remarks about my holey pants, does he? Fortunately we don't go out together wearing our torn clothes otherwise we would get a few looks I'm sure! Yhanks for a fun response AcousticSoul!happy [paula27661]

At the back of my wardrobe I still have the very first denim jacket I ever bought over 25 years ago. I was such a skinny thing back when I bought it and I'm quite sure I wouldn't be able to get into it now if I tried - but still I just can't part with it. When ever I look at that jacket I remember so many happy memories of nights out with friends who I don't see so much of these days, parties and dancing around at live gigs. I can't imagine ever throwing it away. [tabbycat]
Some things do bring back fantastic memories don't they? There is nothing wrong with keeping them for old time's sake. I have some old jeans like that too and I'm sure they no longer fit because they look pretty small! I don't dare try them on because I'll get depressed but I'll keep them all the same as old souvenirs...Thanks for responding tabbycat!happy [paula27661]

Hi paula, I know what you're saying. My wife eventually removed all my old favorites, and replaced them with more fashionable clothes. Now most have gone, I still have one T-shirt, and an old pair of jeans, which she has promised I can keep. I'm OK with this. [mipen2006]
Glad she let you keep some! There comes a time when we have to face the fact that some things have just got to go and I know my track pants will too eventually but only when I have something as old and worn to replace them, it's a comfort thing with me, to have old comfy favourites. Thanks mipen!happy [paula27661]

hello paula, I did,i had my favorite black blouse that i love to wear it when i go for some occasion. It can make me looks slimmer(hahaha) And since it is black in color,it can't be noticed that,i already wear it for several times.rolleyes I just can't throw it away. niceday [jaiho2009]
I love clothes like that! You can get away with wearing them over and over and it is not too noticeable. I agree that black is a great colour for those fat days ( I have a lot of those (LOL)) If it looks good, you are comfortable in it and you love it why not keep it, I say! Thanks jaiho 2009, I appreciate the response!happy [paula27661]

I've had clothes that I couldn't part from and tend to wear them till they can't be worn anymore. I had this white shirt that was really comfortable and wore it till it had so many holes in it that even at home it was inappropriate unless I wanted attention from hubby! silly [CatsandDogs]
That's funny! I don't think I would get the attention I'd want! (LOL) It does get to the stage when some things have to go and it is difficult to say goodbye but it must be done (LOL)! My track pants don't have long, I know so I will enjoy them while they are still in one piece, sort of...Thanks cats!happy [paula27661]

Not me, but Hubby has a few. They are often subject to sudden loss, when I can no longer stand them. I'm in charge of laundry. [savypat]
As long as he doesn't get upset. He obviously trusts your judgement! I am the one on laundry duty which explains while my track pants are still alive and well, sort of...They won't last too much longer but until I'm ready to ditch I'll hang to them! Thanks pat!happy [paula27661]

oh yes... i do have several clothes that have a deep sentimental value to me and i never throw them out until now even if they are too small for me to wear them anymore... so i can perfectly understand your feeling... take care and have a nice day... [lingli_78]
I'm glad your relate! I have old things that I keep like that. I have a couple of my daughter's baby dresses that I have put in plastic and keep as a memento, she's eight years old but I cannot bear to part with some of her old things. Thanks for your response lingli_78!happy [paula27661]

Alot of my jeans have holes in 'em, and my shoes always eventually fall to shreds...and I keep 'em and wear 'em until it's impossible to repair them or wear them anymore...and even then, if I can I try to make them into something else. A pillow for my dog's bed. Pillowcases for MY bed. Etc. I just feel that it's wasteful to just simply throw out my faithful friends that served me so well over the years. [xParanoiax]
I agree and you have given me an idea to make use of my track pants even of they become a cat blanket or something, it is a shame to waste old faithfuls you are quite right; that way I will feel better about parting with them when the time comes..Thanks for a great response xParanoiax!happy [paula27661]

My favorite jeans are on their way out and JC Penney doesn't carry them any more, but I found some online. Seems like everything's available on the internet. Maybe you can find some track pants just like your favorite ones when you are ready to let them go... [dawnald]
I already have and I'm sure I will be able to say goodbye to the old ones soon...You are right just about everything is available online and if you do your research you can get really good bargains. My husband got a pair of motorcycle boots for a third of the price they cost in the shops! Thanks for stopping by Dawn!happy [paula27661]

Lol Paula I have a pair of Jeans I will not let go even though I can not wear them any more as I am not to have anything tight round my Stomach but I will not let them go as I love them [gabs8513]
If you love them you should definitely keep them...You never know when you will be able to wear them again. I am almost able to get rid of the my track pants, just not right now! Thanks for being here gabs!happy [paula27661]

Yes, I do. I know how you feel. There is a T-shirt in particular I should throw away. The design on it is faded, and it has a couple of small holes in one sleeve, but I won't throw it away. I usually just wear it when I'm not going anywhere, but on occasion I've worn it to the drugstore or something. But I really should toss it. Probably won't though. happy [AmbiePam]
I can relate to that! There is only a couple of places near home where I go for a few minutes like school and the local shop is where I wear my holey track pants, I have bough similar new ones but I am not ready to lose the old ones yet! Thanks for responding Pam!happy [paula27661]

Hi paula, I can understand your feelings dear as many often I am going through the same. If we think about from their side, they are also right; they want their best half in perfect dress stylewub. But these thoughts are coming as second only and the first thought must be, wife doesn't have any liberty to choose their own dress.. ..lol I love one of my particular salwar but now I will avoid the same when going out with my hubby..rofl [Sreekala]
Hi Sreekala, I wouldn't wear my holey pants if my husband was taking me out, they are for around the house, school pick up and drop offs and the local delicatessen; that is why I don't see a problem with my favourite track pants...I know they have a limited existence, I'm just not ready to part with them just yet! Thanks for your response, I appreciate it!happy [paula27661]
