These days, washing machines are becoming a necessity. Some go to laundry shops to have their laundries done of have it cleaned by other people. Our washing machine is broken so I have to do our laundry manually though I do hand wash white clothes and my little baby's things since some stains are not cleaned by the machine. Some delicate clothes are not also to be machine washed. Some people don't even want their clothes machine washed, even their jeans because they believe that machines could damage their clothes or have their clothes easily get old and faded. How about you? Do you still do your laundry manually or you just rely on the machine?

I rely on my machine to wash the clothes. I don't have the time to wash them by hand. I remember when I was younger my aunt had an old washing tub and a roller, and did her clothes all by hand. I tried it one time with her and it was hard work to roll all those clothes through the ringer. [shymurl]
We have a washing machine to do the laundry, but because of the very expensive cost of electricity my wife do the laundry by hand everyday so it won't pile up. She still use the machine but for bed sheets and comforters only. This is one way of making the clothes lasts a little and to lower the bills. [spyjob]
It depends. If I'm just washing regular pants and shirts I just turn on the machine. If I'm washing expensive lingerie or clothes, I usually hand wash as directed. Hand washing all your clothes would take a considerable time, I can't even imagine hand washing that much laundry! Usually I just follow the directions on the tag. [Tuffts]
I hate handwashing clothes - it's such a hassle and it really does give you dish pan hands if you do it often enough. I usually buy low-maintenance clothes that don't require dry-cleaning or handwashing. I also don't like to buy super expensive clothes so that if the machine does wreck them, I won't feel as bad. I like to throw everything into the washing machine and dryer if I can. Now, though, I'll throw stuff into the washing machine but I'll sort out the items that shouldn't be thrown in the dryer to prevent shrinking. Even doing that, I resent. I wish manufacturers made all clothes to be low maintenance so they wouldn't shrink or pull if you put it through the machines. I will on occasion handwash really delicate items, but I do it begrudgingly. [doubloonie]
i was wondering seeing though as you like to throw everything into the washing machine, i was wondering if you put your kids in the machine as well and when guests come over do you pick them up and carry them to the washer and dryer, spray them with pre treatment and throw them in with a load of tea towels or something? [anniesumthin]
Depends on the item of clothing..I usually do by machine but if its delicates then hand washing is the way i go... [Rosekitty]
I hand wash intimates as well as tops made of finer material. I do this to make sure nothing snags on the machine and that if anything happens to my clothes it'll be my fault and no one else's. Otherwise, someone else does the laundry for us. Using the machine will make my clothes shrink which is bothersome because I don't get shorter and thinner but fatter and taller!I do notice that the machine makes my jeans fade faster. I don't really know why this happens. [mimico]
Why should I handwash my clothes,when I have a washing machine? [busy_lizzie]
Your response made me lol - I feel exactly the same way! [doubloonie]
I only start ashin my on clothes just this year and I"m doing it manually.I enjoy washing clothes with my bare hands. [bestie]
I don't often wash my clotes. My wife and daughters often washed my clothes instead. They wash clothes with their hands, not machines. We all think the clothes machines worked are not clean. So they wash clothes by their hands. [cncoke]
In India people in most of the houses, we do hand washing only. Only now a days, people have started using washing machine. In my place, even today, my people do hand wash only. [vidhyagowri]
I usually handwash all my clothes since my childhood as I was bought up in a residential school right fron grade 4 wherein all our works had to be done by ourselves. And now that practice has continued through my life. I think that is probably a good practice, we can save a bit on our laundries.... [narthan]
yes I agree with you but for me I don't use washing machine even though it's more comfortable to use and less effort but I do prefered to use by hand manually to wash our clothes rather than washing machine, washing machine can't clean enough the dirt in the dress and deep stain I just used washing machine for the blankets, pants, jacket and some hard clothes that it's too hard to wash using by my hands. [smartinah]
many time swe hand wash clothes. each day we mainly hand wash clothes. they can be cleaned properly. we wash in washing machine some clothes that are heavy. we also wash delicate clothes by hand. [subha12]
Hi, I usually use the machine. When I was first married in 1984, we did not have very much. At that time, yes I was washing by hand. And it is true, the hand washed clothes last longer. Especially when you use a drier the clothes go faster. They get ugly faster. But , when I have more money (hopefully some day, lol) I still want a drier. Until then I can do with or without a washing machine. Take care. [Margajoe]
Some of the clothes i handwas them like deligate fabric. But t-shirt,pants and etc i used washing machine for it.I have no time to handwash them. Greetings from che! [chej18]
yes, i do handwash my clothes. [chiyosan]
I guess I am just fortunate that we found 3 dependable helpers to do the hand washing. Back when we did not have a stay in helpers, we have someone who goes to our house to wash and iron our clothes twice a week. Hand washing is different than machine washing. Clothes base on comparative observation is cleaner when hand washed. [lorelie78n]
Hi, Since the time when i am out of my hometown i used to wash my clothes manually, however at my home i used to wash my clothes in Washing Machine, I really like to wash clothes (it doesn't mean that i will yours: JUST JOCKING). And after that for my future i had to go out of my hometown for further studies and job as well, so over there i have to wash my clothings manually. Bye. [nikecold]
Hi chrysz, I do hand washing for underwear especially the white one. Then also some blouses that are super delicate, I am more confident that I will not damage it..LOL! Some of the rags that needs to be brushed, I'll do it manually! I am also washing manually our tennis shoes and slippers. So, in a week, it is very usual to see me washing outside! [checapricorn]
we use the machine to wash our clothes but since not all dirt are removed for the white ones, we usually hand wash them after washing it in the machine twice. we just want our clothes to smell and feel clean that's why we got used to doing that even if it is very tedious. [iamnes]
We used to do our washing using the washing machine, but ever since we got a maid a few years ago, we have switched to doing hand wash. Somehow the maids we hire are not so accustomed to using the machine and prefers to hand wash the clothes, as they will be cleaner that way. We are fine with that as long as the clothes get washed and ironed. [lexus54]
There are some clothes I like to wear more often and I hand wash them sometimes. But i prefer the washing machines, obviously. :P [Serenity333]
I am using the washer right now. When I was first out on my own I didn't have a washing machine. So many of my things were hand washed. Now with my family and the amount of clothes we have between us,I couldn't imagine it. I don't think The skinon my hands would be in good shape if I washed by hand. Luckily I do not have to. [ersmommy1]
I use washing machine to do the laundry.I will soak the dirty clothes overnight and machine wash the next morning. I only hand wash delicate clothes such as silk, wool and under wears. [nikna88]
ya ..i dont do themm..not becouse i am lazy and am completely dependent on the machines becouse the fabric get affected when we do it by hands ...and wrinkles come out...so its better togive the task to the machine.... [schummi]
i hate handwashing clg clothes with all the things I have to do babying clothes is not a high priory with me. I do not like things that cant go in the washer. I dont usually buy dryclean clothes for that reason. [snowy22315]
dear chrysz I think now a days due to introduction of washing machine no body goes for hand wash. I am also using washing machine for the following reasons such as it is less consumption of time, use of less detergent. But at the same time I also advocate for hand washing as there are certain clothes like bed sheet , jene pants etc. which I think better to do hand wash as machine is not able to wash all these lengthy & heavy clothes. In generally I do not go for laundry unless until washing machine is out of order or b/down. pkc3000 [pkc3000]
Since my washing machine broke, I do most things at the laundry place or at home by hand washing. It's not such a big deal. I used to have to handwash all my baby's diapers. That's the ultimate test of a mother's love. But it was my joy to take care of my baby's little needs. They were not such great needs, but it's something she needed from me. So, I was more than happy to provide her with clean hand washed diapers! Be well. Thanks for the very interesting discussion. Have a good day. [beautyqueen26]
i wash certian things by hand that i dont want messed up in the machine. [Cocoa33]
I still handwash my clothes. I don't have a washing machine yet, as I think handwashing does preserve the colour of clothes. [joliefille]
Hi Chryz, I have been machine washing all my heavy clothes. Except for some sarees like cotton or chiffon material I use washing machine for washing. I have an IFB with me. So I have not had any trouble washing in it. It is easier too. Mostly what we have are cotton clothes and synthetic ones. I refrain from putting my cooton sarees in the machine becaus4e I will have to starch it all over again. It gets very limp and I do not like it. [madlees]
I only hand wash the delicate ones. But for all other clothes, I use the washing machine and dryer. But I always use gentle cycle.lol [crazyoverpurple]
I do my laundry in a washing machine. I have never been one to worry about my clothes getting ruined in the washing machine and they never have...except for this one time I had a bra that came out of the wash that looked like an animal had eaten it lol. I still don't know what happened to that bra... Anyway, I feel your pain, though. I have been there before, doing clothes by hand in the bathtub because the washing machine was broken. I don't miss those days. Luckily, I have a pretty new washer now, I think it's about 2 years old. [phoenix25]
I used washing machine to wear my normal clothes. But some pf pretty clothes, like hollister tops, I just washed them by hands. [adjhoice]
i'm a washing machine girl through and through. i wash everything i have with the washing machine. even clothes with hand-wash only labels are dumped in the washing machine. so far no harm has come to any of my clothes. in fact, most of my clothes have been worn for years without showing any signs of wear and tear. i don't think i can wash my clothes as clean as the machine does so i won't try. it also saved me a lot of time so that i can do other more pleasurable things. cheers ;p [applefreak]
hi chrysz! happy i prefer my clothes to be hand-washed. i do not believe in the cleaning power of a washing machine and it doesn't have the mind to be careful of the clothes it washes. i can wash my blankets, pillow cases, bed covers, and jeans in the washing machine but not my clothes. i have lots of clothes that need careful washing so i prefer to hand wash them. and i agree with you, there are some stains that cannot be removed by the washing machine no matter how long you turn its dial. i used to wash my own clothes when i was still a student. i think there was only one time when i paid for my laundry. now that i have work and less free time, i pay someone to do my laundry, hand washed. but i still wash my own underwear. happy [secretbear]
much better if we hand wash our clothes because it will last long, you can control and mange properly you clothes during laundry unlike using washing machine. all of my clothes are wash with hands but i need to pay it for me. i take care my clothes because it's a cost of money to do shopping every month or 2 months. [julyteen]
If I didn't have a washing machine in my house, I would go to the laundrymat and wash clothes. I would not choose to wash clothes by hand on purpose unless my machine was broke. A washing machine is the best invention when it comes to housework because it makes like so much easier. It would be too hard to wash clothes by hand with my family of 5 people and I would spend all day long washing clothes, not to mention how tired my hands would be. If someone is concerned about a washing machine damaging clothes, then they could use the gentle cycle of the washing machine. I usually use the regular cycle for most of my items and my clothes are fine, but for delicate items, I use the gentle cycle or soak method. [rebeccajean]
Mine it depends, if I'm on the mood to do the laundry I'll just do it manually and use my hands since its also faster and more clean. But when I'm in a lazy mood, I used washing machine especially those bedsheet covers. My friend and her mom are addict to hand washing there clothes even though they have washing machine they still use there hands since machine doens't clean well and most of the time will damage your clothes. [lossforredwords]
Yes , I still sometimes wash my clothes by hand ;especially very new ones or some which have some designer work on them . [sweety_81]
Yes, I do have to sometimes wash my clothes with hands. In fact I used to do it quite regularly when I was staying away from my family . Now ,I need to do it very less;still I do it at times. [ptrikha_2]
Twice,I have been wash my clothes by hand. That was beacuse the washing machine was outof order. Itīs a bit old fashion,if you always wash your clothes by your hand. And you canīt get them clean by your hands, only less dirty [Sussie_1]
I do hand wash my clothes. I dont really used to use washing machine just to wash my clothes though we have. I really enjoy handwashing my own clothes. It would make your clothes more manageable and free from fibers. [ShanLhey]
mostly i will do laundry in washing machine twice a week and weekly once i will do hand wash also for clothes which i feel that they will fade ,and the clothes which are new and have embroidery . i will do hand wash all the new clothes and thinks that the when i throw them in washing machine , they will spoil or stinks more. [ank_47]
I use a washing machine and dryer but yes they do wear out your clothes unfortunately. I simply do not have the energy or time to hand wash all my laundry. happy [mariposaman]
