I presently use liquid detergent. And I love to. When I was younger and living with my grandmother, we would always use powder detergent to wash our clothes in. As I have gotten older, I now use liquid. It goes easy on the laundry. Using the powder, sometimes, used to leave a cake like residue on my clothing after they have finished washing.. That was when I first learned how to properly wash clothes.wink So, what do you use, the powder or the liquid?

hi...basically i don't wash my clothes...but if so the situation arises...where i need to wash my clothes..then i would go for powder rather than liquid detergent...and please don't ask me why i prefer for powder..because i too don't the answer.... [vk3110]
When I was pursuing my graduation, I stayed in hostel...... for the budget purpose, I used only the detergent powder to wash the clothes...... now I am at work...... now financially I am good....... so, I am using the liquid detergent to wash my clothes....... [arunmails]
We have someone in our house who comes to wash our clothes. Well, she uses a detergent bar to wash the clothes. For the white colored ones, she uses a powder soap. She usually soaks the white colored ones for about 30 minutes. Well, I really don't know if there are any advantages to using powder or liquid. I just know the option with the fewest chemicals helps keep my bright designer clothes looking their best for as long as possible. So whichever option is less harsh I would say. [jpso138]
We used powder to wash our clothes in, find it ok. We have used liquid in the past but it does cost more than the powder. We use the value washing powder and fabric conditioner, just as good as the branded ones. I do an awful lot of washing in our house [Anne18]
I use liquid because it is easier to carry the jug downstairs to the laundry room. Also the management of the condo i live in requested we all use liquid due to powdered detergent clogging up the drains or something like that. I do not care what the brand is so I usually buy what is on sale or if I see a good sale I go ahead and buy it. Peaceout [muscles4me]
I use liquid detergent now; I used to have the same problem as you, having those clumps of detergent powder stucked in the washing machine. However, if I'm hand-washing, I use powder instead. [lazeebee]
I prefer to use the liquid detergent. It seems less messy to me. If I have to I will use the powder but I don't like it as well. I try to buy my detergent on sale or when I have a coupon so I don't have to pay full price for it. So that makes a difference too but most of the time, I buy the liquid. [lilcee]
I like to use liquid because that way I know that all of the detergent will be dissolved. When I was using the powder sometimes on the colored clothes there would be a white residue left behind even after going through the rinse cycle twice. With the liquid there is no need to worry about white residue. [sudalunts]
I use liquid detergent on my clothes. [camomom]
I normally use powdered Gain. I like the scents and its what I have used for many years. [relundad]
i used to use powder laundry soap all the time. But i found that every time i'd go to do laundry, there would be bits of powder all over the floor. i got tired of Cleaning up this powder every time i wanted to do laundry. i now use liquid laundry soap alot better. i find that the liquid also seems to clean the clothes better. [princessmel]
I always use the liquid detergent. It dissolves much better especially when saving energy by washing in cold water. [sierras236]
lols, as for me, Im not able to finally learn how to wash my clothes yet. But in my opinion, liquid is better because of the reason you have provided. But I often see my mom using powder or a bar detergent. Never seen her used liquid.. is it more expensive? [PinayPrincess]
I use liquid detergent. I didn't like the powder that was left either.I would have to rewash the clothes thus making the chore longer. With liquid I can wash the laundry once and be done. When I was younger my family used powder as well. I do like using the liquid much better. Anything that speeds up household cleaning is a winner with me. [SuzyQ12]
We use liquid in my house. We have as long as I can remember. That is just what my mom gravitates to, I guess. [rvangeld]
Hello cream. I use laundry powder to wash clothes when we use the washing machine to do the laundry, but if we hand-wash, I prefer more of a cake of soap. Good night, friend. [williamjisir]
Well, when i was still working abroad... i don't hand wash my clothes... i always use the washing machine... so... i used liquid detergent... because like you said... they don't leave a cake like residue... and i love the smell of my clothes when i use liquid detergent... But now that i am in my country... where liquid detergent is not that popular because it is quite expensive... i have no choice but to use powder when i am using the washing machine... and bar or solid detergent when handwashing my clothes... [aseretdd]
I use the liquid. I'm not sure if I have a preference for either powder or liquid, since there are good and bad to each. But about 15 years ago, I had a friend who was without a doubt THE most frugal person I ever met, knew, or heard about. I can't begin to describe her carefulness, it was so over the top. Anyway, she researched which was cheaper to use, even tho she was sure powder was cheaper. It wasn't. Turned out that liquid was cheaper. No internet then to check things out, but she was so very careful, I took her word for it -- there was a whole instruction of how it was figured out, in some "frugal living books" -- so I took her word for it and started to use liquid. I will say I think there might be a tendency to use more then is needed with liquid -- especially the more they concentrate it, so we use smaller and smaller amounts. I know I've caught myself thinking that can't possibly be enough! [thedogshrink]
I use the liquid! I hate the residue that powder leaves on my clothes i have found that when you use the powder you have to do a couple extra rinses just to get rid of the residue that is a waste of water minus me please [zukepr]
I much prefer using liquid detergent because a few times in the past when I used powder form it got stuck to my clothes and didn't wash all the way out. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija [kellyjeanne]
Liquid detergent ?? never heard of it... i always prefer washing soap or washing powder.I prefer washing powder than washing soap for the reason it can be used in washing machine. [subeesh]
i mostly preferred powder over liquid i havent seen any cake residue over my clothes so i m still using powder if i see ant then change to liquid [KrizaliD_211]
Hi cream97, I have always use powder soap and it has never given us any problem with detergent residue on our clothes, it must be the amout we put in or its the machine, it works fine with ours. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
powder, its the only eco friendly one i could find out of the two types [JulianaRose]
I used powder or liquid, it all depends on their prices when I looking to buy laundry detergent. Happy myLotting Snowqueen [snowqueen2008]
Well I use powder detergent and as such, never had any problem in using it. [comfort55]
I prefer to use the liquid detergent as well. My mom used to use the powder, but had to switch to the liquid to. The reason why I only use liquid is because my moms washer actually got burned up by the powder. Some of it got out of the drum and ruined the washer. So I will not use the powder detergent ever even though the cost is alot cheaper! [Isabellas2007]
I for one cannot stand using powder detergent. I have even melted the poweder in warm Water and the cloths still comes out with residue all over it. Am I doing something wrong or does everyone have this same problem. I prefer to use liquid and have been using it for years. I will never go back to using powder again. [nicholejade]
I only use liquid detegent.I wash in cold water and i find the powder sticks to the clothes. [jackiew]
I use liquid. The cheapest brand I can find. Hey, it does the job, right? I hate using powder. Sometimes the residue stays on your clothes then you have to rinse them again. [littlebeansprout]
It depends, sometimes we use the powder, sometimes we use the liquid. We've been using the liquid more often. I think it's easier to use. You just pour it into a cup and then pour it into the wash. The other stuff requires getting your hands rather dirty and I hate that. [highflyingxangel]
Just like you, I like liquid for the very same reasons. Besides, I think liquid mixes much better with water than the powder does. The brand I use is Wisk because it really does get the stains out. One time I had to wash my husband's greasy clothes, good clothes mind you, angry and I put a dab of wisk all over the greasey spots and rubbed it together till it turned white and the stains came out!! That was years ago and have been with Wisk ever since! [CatsandDogs]
I used powder detergent it is because we got used to it, I haven't tried that liquid detergent, I've gotta try it so probably it is much better than the powder. [nimnim74]
Powdered detergent is not even available in my area anymore. So, obviously, I use liquid. Currently, I use only detergents that are "free and Clear" of dyes and scents. We have sensitive skin in our family. [rocketj1]
We used powder at home when doing our laundry. It works fine with our clothes and I don't notice any residue in my clothes. I think it depend on what brand you use. I haven't tried liquid detergent but it seems pretty cool to use. I'll try to use one and see the difference between powder and liquid detergent. [katkat]
Hi cream! I also use liquid detergent. I don't like to use the powder for the same reason. I always find that it tends to leave the powder residue on some of the clothes no matter how I wash. So I have stopped using it now for years. I much prefer the liquid so I don't have to worry about the powder staying on the clothes. My boyfriend does the laundry now and he likes to use the tide powder and liquid. He doesn't seem to have trouble with the powder residue so I just let him deal with doing the laundry. It's ok with me because I really don't like doing it because we have to take it to the laundrymat and we don't have a car! [Opal26]
I prefer liquid. There is always the chance that the powder will not disolve all the way and I don't like that very much. I also find that the scent is much better with a liquid. I like the concentrated liquid All, it is small and I can keep it on top of the washing machine. But powder is more economical so if my husband were to lose his job I would switch back to powder. [ladym33]
I use liquid soap. I was told that using powder detergent is not safe for your septic, or for your Plumbing because builds up in your system. I think it is much easier to use liquid soap then to use powder. It just works better for me. [tlb0822]
I have to use liquid. I used to use powder but when I moved to this house I had to switch. The water is too hard and the detergent won't dissolve. Too bad because powder is cheaper. But you gotta use what works. [Ruthep]
Hi! To tell you the truth, I do not do laudry...ever. While I was in college in DC, I would hop on the metro with a huge bag of dirty clothes to transport to my parents house to complete! Currently, I have the bf do the laundry as I am in charge of dish-doing and taking care of our poodle and chihuahua! [JM2908]
I like using liquid detergent a lot better sometimes the powder will stay on the clothes if I fill it up too much LOL. Have a great day. [patriciaqualls]
I love, love using liquid detergent! I have used powder before & I have also noticed the residue on clothes. So I don't use powder anymore. Got tired of having to wash my laundry over to remove the residue. So I'm all for liquid! :D [LUCKEE]
I used to use powder detergent, Until it caused serious problems with my washing machine....it caked-up on the inside or something and my machine stopped working. It was weird. Anyway, now I use strictly liquid detergent. Thanks! Happy MyLotting! [PrincessKitten]
We use powder detergent always when doing laundry and if we washed them using our hands we used a bar detergent. see yah! [howardskip]
Liquid detergent, Gain to be exact. I do add a scoop of powder Oxy Clean though, so I guess I'm dancing to both sides the record. [gitfiddleplayer]
Liquid detergent, Gain to be exact. I do add a scoop of Oxy Clean and its a powder, so I guess I'm dancing to both sides of the record. [gitfiddleplayer]
we use powder detergent... havent tried liquid detergent yet. [Nhey16]
We use liquid. Usually Tide or Gain. Whatever is on sale. Powder leaves residue and irritates our skin. It feels like it doesn't get rinsed out as good as the liquid and we find white spots on our clothes from the powder. So we use liquid I wouldn't want to use anything else. [jbb316]
I use the liquid ones. Its more convenient to use.. [katrhina23]
Well currently I use powder detergent. Im not really sure why i do but somehow, its as if it makes my clothes cleaner.Im not even sure. Does it even matter what kind of soap you use. liquid detergent or powder, does either of them have any better qualities than the other? Maybe the powder is cheaper. But then again maybe the liquid detergent is cheaper. as long as i can see the soap suds all over my clothes i feel that my clothes are getting a good washing, no matter what kind of detergent i use. [Mikyoo12]
Hi! I only use liquid detergent to wash my clothes in. I don`t like to wash with powder. I always think it leaves some marks if you are in a hurry and wash a fast way. =) [damato]
hi sis How are you well here our maid washes the cloth na so she uses the Powder. wel here mom dont washes the clothes , we have the maid for washing clothes. oki but when soem times i need soem clothes to be washed so mom do it for me or she do it for her self too. takecare shazy dude [shazy52]
I prefer to use liquid laundry detergent. I grew up using it and have just contiued on into my adult life doing the same. Besides, for me, it is just easier. Now, with that said, I do occassionally have to use powder when I am doing laundry for someone else, and that it what they buy. I have found that when using powder, it is best to alwas dissolve it in water before loading clothes to help reduce the chances of the powder sticking to clothes. [lynnemg]
Hi frnds, Do you use powder or liquid detergent to wash your clothes in? I am using a powder detergent to my wash clothes. My mom will use the powder detergent for wahing a clothes. Some times my mom uses a liquid detergent for a wash clothes. My clothes i will only wash my clothes with powder detergent. I will wash my clothes properly only.I will not give it to loundry shop. [23uday]
I hate using the powder because it never fails when I have to use it that it leaves a powdery white residue on some of my clothing. So I buy liquid 99.9% of the time. I know some might not have that problem if they use warn or hot water but I use only cold water to wash clothing in. It conserves energy and is considered the "green" thing to do nowadays. [mtdewgurl74]
I usually use powder. But if i find a good deal on liquid I will use it. I am really not picky about it. I would rather save money and get whats cheaper than worry about whether its powder or liquid. [mssnow]
I use the powder. What I do is add the detergent and let the washer agitate and then I add the cloths. I don't have any problem with any kind of residue left on the cloths. [sunshinelady]
growing up my mother always used the powder type - in huge boxes that would have prizes in them - the ones I recall are Bath towels (light weight) with lovely flowers on them. I agree sometimes the powder would clump. I think you can prevent that by dissolving the powder in some hot water first. I currently use a liquid cleanser because I need the High Efficiency type. I do not know if powder would work in my machine or not. I think that powder (laundry SOAP) is better environmentally and for your septic/sewer system than liquid (laundry DETERGENT) is. [Modestah]
i use liquid because the powder some times wouldnt dissolve and would be gross on the "supposively clean" clothes [moonlitmagikchild]
well,I use liquid because it is easier to carry the jug downstairs to the laundry room. [drealm]
i always use a powder detergent whenever i do my laundry, i don't buy liquid detergent and i don't think it is popular here in our place. My mom still use detergent bar added to the powder but no liquid detergent. Maybe it is available in the market although i didn't notice it before. [djmarion]
I actually love liquid detergent i think it smell is stronger than the powder. But in the few weeks i went back to the powder because it was cheaper after the prices started to rise. [money1]
I use powder. I haven't seen a liquid detergent. [keir3000]
I use powder detergent because I find the liquid detergent makes the colors in my clothes run! [angemac23]
i use liquid and always have. i like it much better than powder. i agree about the residue it leaves behind. i just find the liquid so much easier to deal with. i suppose it is what my mom got me used to too so we tend to stick with what we were brought up with most of the time unless something way better comes along. [mikeysmom]
well my mom is using powder detergent everytime she does the laundry. happy mylotting [cristine0421]
I would use powder. i don't know about liquid detergents except for downy. but sometimes we use both. but powder is fine with because i have gotten used to it when doing the manual laundry. [Greeneagle24]
i would prefer a liquid with a nice scent but i am trying to save money and with my two toddlers and machanic husband i end up doing 2 loads a day so I use the cheapest stuff i can find. I buy bulk and I get the powder. It works i guess. [dragonflyfli]
I use powder detergent to wash my clothes.I wash myself when I am abroad for my Job.I am comfortable with powder detergent.I have not faced any problems using powder detergent till to date. I think the problem you faced might be because of the mode of usage. When I wash,First I put sufficient amount of powder into a bucket. Then I pour water into it so that any traces of detergent powder will not be unsoluble.By doing this I get the water soft enough to clean well. Then I put my clothes in it for a reasonable time period. Now, I can wash my Dresses easily and safely. Thanks and happy washing:) [navas4u]
basically, i don't wash our clothes as we let the laundry service do the washing.. but if we don't have the budget for that, i do the the work.. i use Tide or Pride powder detergent to wash our clothes..we don't have washing machine here in our flat so i do it manually.. yay! [gracie04]
I use liquid as I use Era and Era does not make a powder detergent. I have tried Tide before but it does not get the grease stains out of my husbands clothes like Era does. I did use Dreft powder Baby detergent when my daughter was a baby though I washed her clothes seperate from ours. [luvstochat]
I like the liquid the best, but my mother usually buys the laundry detergent and she always buys powder. If I buy it myself I buy the liquid. It doesn't have to dissolve. [sweetbabyjane]
Hi there Cream. I use powder detergent to wash cloths manually and so does my other when she does them with the washing machine. When i do wash some socks or underwear manually i usually let them for a few hours in water with detergent so that it makes it easier to wash them; i then mix them very well with fresh water so that i make sure that there is no detergent left on the cloths. [elitess]
Few years back, I used powder in washing our clothes. I even experience using the bar laundry soap because i wash by hands before. It cleans better than the washing machine can do. But when I became very busy with work and washing by hand takes time, I used the washing machine and put powder detergent in it. But now, I used liquid detergent. It is more convenient and cheapest to use.happyhappy [Bebs08]
I hate the powder detergent & never, ever use it on my clothes. When I was younger we would buy the powder because it was a lot cheaper, but after we took our clothes out of the washer I remember it would have clumps of powder stuck to them. Now that I am older & I have my own clothes to wash(and that of my husband's as well)I only use Gain Liquid detergent. I like Tide as well, but it's way too exspensive so I usually buy Gain which works just as well & smells good too. [photographygirl73]
I use liquid detergent too, we used to use powder detergent when I was younger growing up, and like you, it would always leave powdery stuff on our clothes and I didn't like that. I know sometimes the powder is cheaper than the liquid but it works much better. [walijo2008]
we use the washing machine when doing the laundry and yeah we use the powder form of detergent in washing..more convenient and appropriate i guess...i havent try the liquid form yet i think its more good than the powder basing on your testimony.. [vanities]
I use liquid laundry soap. I put it in while filling the washer with water...and sorting clothing to go in. After its full i put the clothing in. I dont like the powder because it leaves flakies or the caked bits. [saundyl]
I use a powder I find it is more economical and when I used liquid to much went in so I use surf or daz and it gets it white and clean. [suzzy3]
Hello cream97 I use whatever detergent is on sale at the time I need it. Sometimes I use powdered detergent, and sometimes I use liquid detergent. [Transdisc]
Hello my friend cream97 Ji, Well, I am in habit of using std. Powders only. Is there any harm. have a nice time. [chintoo07]
I use powder detergent most of the time because it is less expensive. But sometimes I use Liquid detergent too.You are right it is easier to use the liquid detergent because it dissolves readily. I am not really sure which is more environmentally friendly. Perhaps we should also consider this. [jimbelle]
i am using liguid soap for the washing machine. [bombshell]
We've always used the liquid form. I don't know that we've ever used powder in my entire life. It just seems like this has always worked better. [CRSunrise]
I love the liquid detergent because it's spreads evenly through the laundry. I used lots of times the powder, and almost each time, I was still seeing clogs of powder on the laundry. From the moment I started to use the liquid detergent, problem solved. No more wet powder remainings after washing. I recommend warmly, the liquid. [ladynetz]
happyI was using liquid previosly, but now I use powder detergent to wash clothes regularly! Thanks for this topic. Have a good day!surrender [Mitraa]
i use detergent powder called surf or tide .in india we get surf and now in here in kuwait we use tide .those two are more good for me . with powder u won;t get cake like residue. u should soak powder in little water for 10 minutes ,first and should use in washing machine or soak in washing machine only with some water. then the clothes come good after washing. if u find any residue ,u can clean it with brush and clean it water. [ank_47]
