For those old old clothes that you won't even look at it and wear it, they are just there in your closet. Do you donate it or sell it or what?
I found I have a bunch of old clothes like that that I won't wear it, I think I will probably give it to my little sister and see if she is interested; if not, I might donate it or something, I doubt regular clothes can be worth too much money.
What about you?

responses and comments:
Well, being poor we usually wear them out, the ones the kids grow out of we give to our neighbors! The rest go to Salvation Army! The ones that are totaled we use for rags! That about sums it up! tdemex [tdemex]
I use the very old one like holes on it and all the way stretched ones for rags too. Thanks for sharing :-) [mermaidivy]
Any old clothes i have i tend to put in a charity bag for any charity if i know they are no good to me or anyone else i know. The other times i tend to take them to a clothing bank so that they are made use of still for other people.I never throw them away not if someone else can make use of them. [jugsjugs]
Throwing them away will be a waste, donating them is a way :-) [mermaidivy]
If something is still nearly new, I sell it on eBay. If its got some signs of wear, it goes to the charity shop. I love that I get to help people who need clothes and I get a tax break on my donation as an added bonus. It makes me feel good and it makes tax season that much less of a pain in my wallet. I used to give my son's old clothes to my nephew as he is 7 months younger, but he is so big now he hands down clothes to his older cousin! [caragh2608]
My sister wears a lot of my old lcothes too, save my money to buy her clothes! :-) [mermaidivy]
I like designing and crafts, so sometimes I try to make the clothes into something else. But the rest goes to charity. [Rose2798]
Yeah, this sound a bit odd, but one of my favorite shirts is made mainly of one of my old skirts. The downside of this, is that you have to sow most of the time. I HATE sowing! [Rose2798]
I have a booth at the local flea market, and all the used clothes i have i put their to sell, I do not put that much on them anywhere from $1 to $3 each. It is not much but it does add up. and i usually have a bunch of used clothes from all the different sources that i get stuff from. so i price them low to keep them moving. [dlr297]
Really? That sounds nice, I wish I could have a booth like that... [mermaidivy]
I have two closets filled with clothes and a wardrobe in the garage filled with them as well. I also keep my out of season close in storage during off season. This allows my house to be less cluttered and me to find what I want to wear much more easily. It's always amazing to me that even though I have so many clothes that there are only a few things that I really like to wear so that's what I tend to wear most of the time. I have to be in the mood to do this but when I do clean out my closets, I donate my old clothes. I try to do it at least once a year. [LaurenInLA]
Sounds like you have tones of clothes! [mermaidivy]
I always give my(outer)clothes to the local charity shops. They can make good money for their good causes. I always feel better donating for free & letting the charities benefit rather than trying to sell for a few pounds. Underwear goes straight in the bin! X [seductress]
Even though I spend £££s on underwear, I would never think of passing it on - it just doesn't seem right. x [seductress]
When we find some old clothes, we just ask our neighbors, friends, and relatives to go through them. If they like it, we tell them they can have it. If there is any clothes left after that. We just bag them and call the local charity to come by and pick them up. They are nice and pick them up for free. [chunijole]
It is a good way to donate to the charity :-) [mermaidivy]
Generally good will. What comes around goes around! [Averiex]
i have tons of old that as well. i would definitely donate them, if only those donation centres or charities were near my place. unfortunately it's too far from my place and to lug a bag full of old clothes in a taxi/cab and all, that would be too much of a hassle for me. if possible, i try to give them away though that happens only seldom due to our circumstances. thus, i just throw them away even though it breaks my heart. cos sometimes even though my clothes are years old, they still look ok. no holes or whatever. [sminut13]
oh yea, my clothes definitely take up a lot of space in my drawer. too much for my liking in fact. -_-" [sminut13]
i'd preferred to donate it. Because at my country there are many people needs to help. One of those help can be donate our clothes. beside that, Helping other people is a priceless.. :D [chys_tmp]
Usually, I either see if my younger sister wants them and if not I give them to the Salvation Army. [LairOfMetal]
Dont ever throw away old clothes. They can become in style before you know it.Anyway, you can re-style your clothes to make completely new ones. But if you want to make some extra cash,i say you do a yard sale,or introduce some clothes to neighbors, family, friends and see if they want to buy at reasonable price. [den1545]
Yes, old clothes sometimes can be a fashionable thing because fashions always change. [mermaidivy]
we usually give it to my relatives as hand me downs or give to our neighbors. [vonKyle]
mermaidivy odd you coming up with this question as I was just thinking what can I do with those old blouses that either dont fit or that dont look good on me, and are keeping my dresser drawers so full I can barely shut them? I am in a retirement home but think maybe I could get a friend to drive me to a Salvation army store where I could donate the clothes I havent worn in two years. they are just cramming my closet and my drawers to the point I c an barely get out the things that I do wear. if you have really nice clothes some consignment stores pay fairly well for top notch dresses, skirts, pants and tops [Hatley]
Consignment stores? Let me check out on the internet. Thanks for sharing :-) [mermaidivy]
I am the youngest and the smallest person in my family so I always donate my clothes to places like goodwill or salvation army that help poor and disabled people. I also donate books I don't read, and other things. [bluehibiscus]
It depends what kind of clothes it is. Sometimes I will donate it. If it is stained, I will throw it away. I am very crafty, so if there are zippers or Buttons on it, I will take them off and put them away. If I like the pattern of the material I will try to fix the clothing to make something else, like a different piece of clothing or a pillow or something. Maybe one day I can make a quilt with all of my extra fabric? [rebelmel]
I throw away the stainted ones too. [mermaidivy]
I have some clothes that I don't use anymore because I gained some weight and my body is more developed now than before. 2 years ago, I put my old clothes to in a box and put it outside the house. The next day, some neighbors took it and look at the clothes. They are wearing my old clothes now but it still looks good and not faded. Maybe next time I should donate my old clothes to a relief center so that disaster victims will have clothes to wear when they need it. I don't like to sell old stuffs as I don't like too many hassles. [sophie_dfuss]
I have lots of clothes I don't fit anymore either since I have got alot thinner :-( I am very unhappy about it... [mermaidivy]
I can't give my old clothes to my siblings since we do not have the same size. Usually I just give my old clothes away to those who are less fortunate, though I don't really change my clothes that often these days. I wear them until they no longer fit me or until they are too worn out. If I have clothes that I have only worn a few times and I do not particularly like their style, then I try to sell them online for a while, if it doesn't get sold, then I give them awayhappy [silverglint]
It's good to have same size so we can share: -) [mermaidivy]
I got like a whole closet of those, I already donated some of those clothes I'm not wearing with cousins and I still got more. I gave away some through donations. Now I think I will be selecting this clothes some time this week just to clean my closet and give it away. Its not really worn out clothes, there are many that I didn't even wore. The thing is I don't buy clothes, my sister-in-law has a boutique and when there's new arrivals she will sent me new ones twice in a month and I mean bunch of new ones. She carries close and accessories from some of my favorite celebrity fashion lines. So when I get to have few favorite ones I seldom give attention to other clothes reason why I didn't had the chance to wear others. [angel_of_charm]
Wow, that's nice! I wish I had a bontique too :-p even to get a discount for family business is good :-) [mermaidivy]
I usually give it to my cousins or sometimes to our maids or my sisters' maids. .. Once I gave it to charity. .. . [dorisday1971]
I think giving it away to people is good instead of throwing them away:-) [mermaidivy]
We have several salvation army boxes scattered around my town so that's where my family's clothes go if they are still in good shape. Otherwise they become rags or burned. [blackbriar]
I sitll don't know where is the closest place tha tI can donate, I weill need to check it out. [mermaidivy]
first,I have little those clothes for my clothes could hardly survive a period longer than 2 years;second,I like wear old clothes than a new one,and i think old clothes let me feel confidential. [cedarlgp]
confidential? You mean confident? [mermaidivy]
old clothes 4 me is a treasure cause its ur way 2 remember the old times,,if u sell it i like that you give ur memory oin he past.....thats he importance of old clothes for me............. [devil_cazama]
It's true too so I'm still keeping them... [mermaidivy]
I usually give them to people who are less fortunate. [vzerocool]
we wanted to sell our clothes but it's difficult to have a garage sale her in our area and it's too tiring puttng prices oon the clothes. so sometimes, those that still look good are sent to some relatives or the needy people in the vicinity. sometimes we give our blouses and skirts to some girls who need clothes in our church. it's better when you actually think of specific people or persons you would like to gve your clothes too.at least you know that they need your old clothes it's more worthwhile [kukaisiton]
I usually give my old clothes to orphanage. I do it every 6 months so that the cloth is being useful for someone rather being thrown out. when I give this to orphanage, I make a point that the cloth is in usable condition. If the cloth is not in usable condition, I use it to clean my vehicle and floors. [yeomanly]
I use those as rags too. [mermaidivy]
Mom used to give my old clothes to the needy. There are a lot of people here in my place who are less fortunate. They belong to a tribe and used to live in a remote place. [ybonjoc]
so it is good to donate clothes to them. [mermaidivy]
I love clothes! My clothes doesn't even fit in my closet anymore lol! whenever i have old clothes, my mom and my brother chooses to donate them to the less fortunate. For my old underware though, i prefer to just dispose of them, cut them into pieces and throw them away. [beatrice03]
I don't think it is a good idea to donate the underwear :-p [mermaidivy]
often i throw those old clothes. but before i thrown them i have worn that out already since i like every piece of my clothes and wear them until can't be wore anymore. for those old enough ready to thrown clothes. i use one knife and cut them into small pieces ..then throw it.. [celebratelifeh]
Usually I give away my old clothes. I gave some clothes to my maid's daughter. I don't throw it in dust bin if they are not too bad. I give it to poor people. If some clothes are extremely good, but I am bored of wearing it for a long time, then I will give it to my cousing or my sister. I keep buying clothes very often. [daliaj]
I used to buy new clothes very often too but not anymore :-( no money :-\ [mermaidivy]
For those old clothes i prefer donate it to someone who still need more clothes. More useful to someonelse than those old clothes fall apart in the cupboard. [shimanaja]
Most of my old cloths I donate to orphanages if they are really in good condition. Sometimes I give them off to beggars who come asking for it. I also give some of my cloths to my servant. We have people coming around asking for old cloths in good condition, in exchange for money. There are people who sell their pots and pans in exchange of old cloths. [yogambal_64]
donation is good. [mermaidivy]
Usually every year I check what I want to keep or not. If the clothes are in good condition (no stains, no holes) I donate them to someone my mother knows. I think it's always nice to help people. If they're not in good condition I usually recycle them by making some kind of Crafts with it or when we need cleaning rags we cut them and use them to clean. One day I thought selling them on ebay but I'm not sure if anyone would buy them so it's better to donate. [ccatherine]
I think so too, I don't think selling them will get much out of it. [mermaidivy]
I have given away my clothes for donation or to my helpers when I was younger. But now I am older I make sure I only buy clothes that I will wear just so I do not waste my money and so my closet won't be full for me to have a hard time to get clothes. I also want to mix and match so its more advisable to keep my clothes unlike when you were little you have outgrown your clothes. [sublime03]
Thanks for sharing :-) [mermaidivy]
I keep it. Haha, its probably not a good idea since it makes my closet such a mess but sometimes I pick up something old and match it to something new and it looks great. If not, donating it is good too. [animegirl334]
my rule is if it doesnt fit me or if i havent worn it in a year, i will donate it to a couple of favourite charities. plus, we usually get a fair amount of donated clothing to us for our kids, so the same thing goes, if i know they cannot use it or it doesnt fit, out it goes. [cher913]
Thanks for sharing :-) [mermaidivy]
I sometimes give the clothes to friends or family who might want them, but most of the time I just put them in a big bag or box and give them to Goodwill or Salvation Army. Sometimes you can get a receipt for your donation and use it to write off on your taxes as charity. Even though you have not received money from the donation, it can still help you come tax time in the USA. [Bethany1202]
You mean it can deduct the TAX I pay? [mermaidivy]
My husband and I both have a lot of old clothes we don't wear so when we get time, we bag them up and donate them to Goodwill. We do that with our shoes as well. It gets our closet cleaned out plus it helps those in need. happy [Wyldrose]
That is good :-) [mermaidivy]
I always give my old clothes to my mother. When she visits her country, she will bring these clothes and donates for poor people over there. They need these stuffs mpre than anyone. [minhminh0604]
That' s right. [mermaidivy]
Except for my jeans, all other go to charitable trusts who pass it on to the needy. [suchi60]
if my cousins ask for any i will give them or else i will give to the Children who are in work for money near my home or i will give it to charity people who generally come to our twice a year for old clothes and books [vklancer]
I always look at my old clothes to make sure there are no stains on them. Then I pass them on to my neighbor who is going to college trying to get a better education for a better job. I used to take some clothing and cut them in to sqaures to make a quilt. Lot of work, but the end result is very satisfying. NOw with my artheritis I can't do much of that any more. [debv822]
well mostly I give it away. To friends other family members who are interested. Then after they have taken their pick then we donate it to foundations and such that helps typhoon victims and the likes. I tried a garage sale once but it's just to much work for only a little amount, so I thought that it's better just to give it to charity. [chaime]
I usually give it away to my sister. I love getting gifts even if it is something someone is just getting rid of or swapping out. It makes it feel like Christmas any time of the year. So it is nice to think it maybe brightens my sister's day when I give her something I don't wear anymore, but that she might love. Plus. recycling is good for the environment. [mermaidivy]
i also got lots of old old clothes in my closet and in my mini draw box. i put it there for some reasons that maybe soon i will need it again. while some of my old clothes i already gave to my nephews and nieces. while some of it, me and my girlfriends have decided to sell it to friends. and the money we could have, we will use it for our business(still finding what business would it be). while some i donate it to those places and people who have gone through calamities and they have nothing to wear. its always so nice to have helped those in need. jhelaihappy [jheLaichie]
hello my friend mermaidivy and thank you so much for making me your BR. i appreciated it so much!!! jhelaihappy [jheLaichie]
I usually have a box around the house in one of the closets that I use for all of us to throw our old clothes in. I have one in the kids closets for any old Toys and games they come across as well. Usually I take them and just drop them off at a goodwill drop or salvation army. Sometimes I will take the kids stuff into a few of the consignment shops in the area, normally I do that more when there are holidays coming up just in case I need to pick up a few extra things. [callahanb78]
For my old clothes that are brand name I will take them to a clothing store ans sell them. For my other clothes, household items, etc. I will dontate itto a place such as SalvationArmy. I hate to throw anything away, especially when I know there are so many people who can use it! [erikmama]
I dont' like to throw them away as well... rather donating them. [mermaidivy]
I usually donate them to a thrift shop if no one wants them. [sid556]
It's a used clothing shop. Some you can earn money from when your clothes sell and others just take donations. [sid556]
I will first ask around if anyone keen on hand me down.. if not, it will be given for charity.. I have a recycle bin provided by the charity organisation just near my house, and if any time I have extra stuff for recycle, I will dump in there for collection by the charity organisation. I don't think I will sell my unwanted clothes.. [cwong77]
Probably won't get much out from it. [mermaidivy]
I donate ours to the Diabetes Society (or maybe it's foundation). I actually donate to them mostly because it's the easiest - they have bins at the grocery store so it's convenient. I just swing into the parking lot and dump my bag of clothes and/or household items in the bins and it's done. [jesssp]
I've either gave the items to charity or worn them till they were only good as wash rags. I know a lot of my stuff went to goodwill before I moved. [ryouga]
I donate mine to charity, usually Salvation Army because there is a drop off center near me. Big Brothers/Big Sisters will come and pick up your charitable donations if you can't bring them someplace. Go to their website and you can get the instructions for arranging a pick-up. They will take most anything, too - furniture, games, toys, clothes, etc. If you own any "good" designer clothing/shoes/accessories, you can re-sell that to a consignment shop, which I've also done. Unfortunately that only works with the really expensive stuff you usually don't plan on selling!! It's worked for me in a couple of really tight situations when I needed extra cash. [jenzee1982]
I've only been paid for the really good stuff, like I said. I had a coach bag from a few seasons ago that I made a few hundred dollars on, and I sold a pair of Dolce and Gabbana Sunglasses for another hundred or so. A few years ago I had a burberry trench coat that I was able to make some money off of. I just looked up consignment shops in my area, called the stores to see what the policies were, and once I found someone that would buy back my old designer stuff, I was golden. They turn around and sell what you sold to them to the general public, but the people that buy it are paying way less than retail because the items are used. [jenzee1982]
I keep old clothes for wearing around the house and garden or I sometimes give them to a charity shop. If they are designer clothes I sell them online. [poshtotty]
I wear the old clothes at home too or give it to the dog for rags to play with. [mermaidivy]
I tend to wear my clothes until they fall apart and then I use them as cleaning rags around the home! I have lost some weight over the last few years, so I have just gone through everything that is too big and I am going to donate them to a local charity who run a second hand clothing store! [RawBill1]
just throw them all away or give them to someone i know that needs them [grundmang]
Sometimes I will take them to Goodwill and sometimes I will have a yard sale first and see what I can sell. What I have left I will then take to Goodwill after having maybe three yard sale in the summer. [happy6162]
Generally, I give it to my servants. Sometimes I donate it to some orphan. Yes, I agree with you but I don't give it to my sister, it has been our habit to wear own cloths. Yes, we exchange sometimes but when it is old we just donate it or give to the servants. [airakumar]
I donate my old clothes to someone who are in needs like typhoon/fire victims. You know it is better to give than to receive. :-) [olepmis]
i am a shopaholic..i go out for shopping every month ..in my life regarding clothes only change is constant..i being a very trendy person i wear whatever is in fashion..and i do have this bad habit of ignoring and dumping my old clothes..but still its amazing..maybe like after a year i open my wardrobe and suddenly find something i havent worn for a while..i really love wearing that dress then..its a different feeling.. [sweetsatabdi]
oh well, i sell it to eBay lol... and i already earned a lot from it instead of occupying space in my closet... besides, i dont know any institution where i can give out some of my clothes.. actually, i still have more of my old clothes here and i still need to dispose them. [homeshoppers]
I think you can find it on hte internet. [mermaidivy]
It depends...if they are old and ratty I just cut them up and use them as cleaning rags...saves me money and it is recycling. I have always meant for the better ones to be bagged up and take them to the thrift store and since I check them out every pay day I might start doing that. [taface412]
I sometimes give my old clothes to my dog to play as rags too. [mermaidivy]
When still good but I boring, the clothes is given by me to the friend or anyone who still want to use it, But if the cloth has been ugly, direct I discard or I make the cloth to be floor cleaner. [jokoutomo]
i try to preserve my old clothes in my house for as long as possible.i even cut off small pieces from them and use them for cleaning my cycles and other things.i use the cut cloth pieces to patch up any torn out Parts of my new clothes.if you think well, you will find out ways to use your old clothes. [golvine]
I use them as rags too. [mermaidivy]
I tend to sort things out - clothing i dont wear, that doesnt fit and store it in my basement for 6 months. A year for summer clothing. If i dont go down for the clothing after that long - i either keep it for my garage sale or i take it into the city to the salvation army. Some i remake into things like quilts or other neat little sewing projects. [saundyl]
hi mermaidivy!^^ before i used to sell my old clothes. i would hang them in our terrace so that people passing by can see them and maybe buy them. i would have wanted it to continue but i can't look after it everyday because i have work. and there's no one in our house interested enough to look after it. so i had to stop it. now i just give away my old clothes to my relatives who want them. i want to give them to charity but i don't have any access to them. i prefer nearby charities because its hard to carry too many clothes.^^ [secretbear]
Hi mermaid...I donate my old clothes if they're good enough to be worn again. If not, they go in the garbage. After all if they're stained or ripped I wouldn't want someone else to wear them. However if they're still nice and I just don't wear them anymore I'll gladly donate them to a goodwill store. Sometimes I'm lucky that an organization has drives where they pick up bags that you leave on your porch so you don't have to go anywhere - they come to you! [deejean06]
Thanks for sharing :-) [mermaidivy]
I hold onto the ones with emotional ties the rest go to battered women's shelters! They need them much more than I need things lying around being taken for granted! [tessastutus]
Thanks for sharing :-) [mermaidivy]
Hey, Well when my clothes are too old, or when I had grown out of them when I was younger, my mother used to donate them to other charities that sell the clothes for like $1 a piece or something like that. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!! [EliteUser]
I sell what I can to consignment shops, and donate the rest to a charity like ARC - things that are slightly damaged but still wearable or a brand name that consignment shops don't take. Otherwise, I give away clothes to my friends who are a similar size & like wearing clothes of a similar style. [maezee]
I usually donate them and give it to the needy.I don't want to keep some clothes that has no value for me but could be of great help to others. But this is applied if i don't have any sentiments/memories attached to the cloth.there are some i keep just for remembering a certain prson/incident.Thanks! [UltimateAsoka]
