I gathered so many clothes i do not wear that many I have not dressed, often buy something that I like very much, and then not wear them again.
I have stored in the attic, in boxes, but I want to give alms, take up too much space, then why not give them to someone wearing them?.
What do the clothes you do not wear you and your family? Thrown away, storing it or them give to charity?confused

Usually I have found the easiest thing to do is Freecycle them. It is a much faster and easier way to rid yourself of something you no longer want. People are always happy to get stuff for free and are glad to travel to you and pick it up themselves. [mslena75]
i ll try to do this, maybe i will give to some relatives, maybe for charity, but you what do with old clothes? [icesmile]
When I have a bunch of clothes I never wear, I like to take them to my local vintage store- they go through clothes people bring in and buy some from them to sell in their store. You should find out if there are any store like that in your area. Its a great way to make some extra money and get rid of your old stuff. If not, than donating clothes to the salvation army or some other charity is another good way to get rid of stuff. [olisaur]
I ll interest,Red Cross can collect for disadvantaged people, it's a good idea. Many still have the label on them, I'm not tempted to sell them, but I gladly give something to Red Cross for charity.happy [icesmile]
Hi, Ice! I often give clothes, shoes and bags to charity when they're no longer being used. I generally buy very classic styles, so they're timeless. They don't really go out of style. There are several groups that collect clothes to help needy women dress for job interviews and for work, and I love to think they'll get important use! [cobrateacher]
Hi teacher, how are you, i am a classy person, but in clothes maybe i am more trendy, i like sport clothes too, jeans i mean, of course not when i go to work; i will try to ask somebody, to give for charityhappy [icesmile]
I usually bring my older stuff that I don't wear anymore to GoodWill. I plan on moving sometime this summer from FL to TN. So when i am packing I will most likely give whatever I can't sell to goodwill. Then maybe someone else can use them. [dreamr802]
Yeah, my last trip to goodwill was like 3 or 4 bags of random stuff that I had. I know in about 6 or 7 months I will be bringing A LOT of stuff to the local goodwill. [dreamr802]
Hi icesmile, It's only now and again that I have something that gets ruined and either is thrown away or I keep it and use for when I am cleaning the house or mowing the lawn, that way I can keep my "good" clothes for other everyday wear. As for the children, my eldest passes down some clothes to his younger brother - at least what can be worn again. What is old and tatty gets binned. When the youngest outgrows his clothes, any good ones go to charity while the rest gets binned. Fiona. [fmpisces]
i usually cull through my clothes about once a year and give away to charity the clothes that look odd on me or just dont fit anymore. i do this after each season with my kids because they grow so fast. [cher913]
When we have old clothes that we don't use anymore, we give them to charity shops here in town. We give them to the shops at no cost, the shops sell them, and the money they make from selling them cheap goes to some charity somewhere. It's a great way to clean out the closet without throwing anything away. [danishcanadian]
Hey icesmile! I am ashamed to say that by the time I am ready to throw out my clothes even the poor people wouldn't want to wear them! They are so worn out with holes in them I would be embarrassed to give them to anyone! Sometimes I just cut them up and use them as rags to clean the house with! Other times I just plain throw them away! I very rarely have anything that is in good enough condition to give away! I wish I did because I surely would be happy to let someone else wear the! [Opal26]
I donate most of our old clothes to charity. If I'm not going to wear them again, maybe someone else will get some use out of them. [cutepenguin]
I usually give my old clothes and my family's old clothes too to other people like the nanny of my baby or to the nanny of our neighbor or to the relatives of our relatives or to those who knock on our home during christmastime who asks for clothes. I also donate some of them to the typhoon victims in our country. That way my old clothes wont be useless and i see to it that what i give is still presentable. [pinklady227]
Well my mom usually gather clothes and just stored in our house. My dad wants to take all out everything and gave it to the needy but then my mom usually keeping on it she need to choose what can still be useful for us... [ghieptc]
i usually recycle it into something else. potholders, quilts, rag rugs..it depends on what shape the item is in. coats i give to charity tho. [scarlet_woman]
i dont know about you but i sold all my old clothes, the ones that i couldnt sell i donate them to goodwill and they gave me a paper for taxes. [jamie012590]
I have the same habit of storing clothes unwanted clothes or sometimes its a new clothes which i forgot to wear and its been kept for so long ..I have find a way make these stuff useful,I asked my housekeeper to packed them all out and sent it to the charity home,I find doing this a bit help to someone and maybe to raised fund for those in need.I think this a good way in disposing unwanted clothes,at least you clear your closet and it make used in other way.. Happy lotting,God Bless! [cloud31]
i got through my clothes about once a year, deciding what i still wear and what i can get rid of. my clothes go to a variety of different places. the ones that are still really good may go to any family and friends who want them, usually nieces and nephews and that kind of thing. every now and then i also have a clothes swap with my friends. we all have slightly different styles and we pile our old clothes and pick out the bits we want. the next step is a charity - any clothes that i dont pass on to someone i know that are stil good go to charity. and the older clothes that arent really good to anyone..... well, a lot of them go to charity too. we often keep a few around the house as rags for cleaning and such. the ones that are left over go to charity as the ones in our area bag them and sell them for rags. i find this system benefits the people i am close too as well as those that need a little extra help. its much better than clothes that i dont wear being left in my cupboard or even thrown away. [bucketkid]
personally, i store them until the right person comes to whom it will fit. sometimes i ask around as to who would like to have it. if in case nobody wanted it, i put it in a box until it's full and hand them over to my mom who in turn trade them for goods, like rice or veggies, in a province up north. [danzekiel]
I won't throw away any of my clothes unless it is in a very bad position. Even in a very bad position, I will use it as a cloth to clean or wipe floor and other things. I collect my clothes and give it to poor people. Some of the clothes I give to my sister if I can't fit into that and if the clothes are expensive and in a very good condition; otherwise she won't accept them. [daliaj]
I usually just keep the old clothes that I dont wear anymore. I keep it for future use not that I am going to use it again but for some people to use it. Here in my country during Christmas, there are a lot of people from the mountains who go to your houses and and ask for some clothes in exchange foe sweet potato or a chicken. I think it is a good way of trading because you will be able to help others too. [p3ks626]
Hi icesmiles, that is a good question from you. What to do with my old clothes? Well, I am not rich so I have to wear my clothes up to 2 years old... that's the longest time I can use them. Last year I have gathered my other old clothes (but they were good enough to use) and put in a box then send it to the province. My mother had given them to my cousins. [primeaque86]
we held a garage sale. we washed and cleaned them, put them in hangers and sold them to people passing by. not just clothes - baby carriage and crib, Kitchen utensils, pots and pans, toys, shoes, bags, books, magazines, dvds, tv, computer table. it's a combination of many, many year's worth of stuff from my parents and siblings. we used the money for everyday expenses. others we gave away to relatives. the rest to an orphanage and a house for the elderly/disabled. [binggaling]
I am very approve of your choice of dealing with old clothes. Not only this can help people who needs it,but also it can release space. You are so clever. In the past,I deal with old clothes to become rag,it is a waste and pity. [hhtyww]
Hello icesmile, Here is a good way to deal with your clothes that will no longer be worn. You can sign in a register on ebay and get your own zone selling all either out fashion or old clothes as a "secondhand zone". It sounds like kill two birds with one stone. As you said you are more trendy in clothes, so that the beautiful ones exactly help you to get a higher price. I think it is better choose a part of your clothes you never wear to give to charity and for the needy. [ykkkuan]
Well, I give my clothes to charity if I am not using them or it is old. We have a community affairs program in our office and deal with charity groups like NGOs. I donate clothes to the charity and my wife also does the same thing. It is good to give the clothes to charity instead of throwing them away. So i give them to charity. It is really good and help poor people too. [chetanvk]
i have given away heaps of old cloth to charity. from your question, you bought the clothes, didn't like them and stored them in the attic. now, what part of your brain is asking you to throw away the clothes you bought? and moreover, why would you consider storing them if they are of no use to you? i remember reading somewhere(not sure) altruism is mankind. and of course, i've been asked to think twice before doing something stupid. here, there's no need to think twice, just give away your clothes to the poor ones. you'll get blessed. we are social animals. [flashgo9]
For me I'm a girl who treasured the old clothes and I dressed them all because I want that many clothes. [ebuscat]
Any old clothes that I no longer want or fit into, if they aren't particularly good (because otherwise I can eBay them and make a little extra cashwink), I pack them in a bag and take them to the local charity shop. They are always so thankful, and it makes me feel like a good person doing such a good causehappy [MrKennedy]
Hello icesmile! Regarding old and unused clothes, in my case ,they either go as bundles of joy during special holidays like Christmas where giving is in the air so to say. And other times, when i feel i have more unused clothes making my closet full, i would then sell it at a very minimal cost. In this way they could be useful and at the same time I could also earn a little amount from it. In the case of throwing away clothes, this would happen only when it's already so old and kind of unpresentable to wear. I wish I could stop buying more clothes and be just contented on wearing same clothes over and over . But being a working lady , it's hard for me to stop on buying clothes stuffs .Though this year, I made a resolution to buy clothes only if very necessary. So far, I'm holding on and really trying to realize this promise... [dragonangel]
I have tons of clothes that I can't wear in my closet. I usually will donate them, but I am hoping since I am dieting that I will be able to wear them all again soon. I do have some clothes that I know I will never wear again and those I need to donate. [illfavors]
My mom usually makes us clean up our closet of the clothes we don't wear and she would give it to other family members who are not so well off. Sometimes, she gives it to neighbors. One time I think she invited people to our garden and all are clothes were there, it was like a garage sale, but everything is free. Hehehehe. We never throw away clothes, unless it's really not wearable anymore, and then we could make it like a cleaning rag. happy [Ingkingderders]
Some of my kid's clothes I give to parents who have kid at appropriate age. If not - I gather them. I think they;ll be in use some day again. According to my clothes, I gather them with the idea that I'll wear them some day...Well I don't, so some day of the year I just but them in bags and carry them to the recycling bin. I put them aside and I'm 100% sure someone will take them. Actually, it'd never happen the bags to stay there more than an hour. [bananamen1]
I store clothes and give them away to poor people. Also our maid who stays 24-7 wears a few of my clothes. I keep the old bath towels to wipe floor and things like that. Only recently I found out that in an old suitcase there were clothes of my husband of his school days...i immediately gave it away... [malpoa]
I usually give my old clothes to the Deseret Industries or Goodwill. I think it's nice to give back to them since I buy a lot of items from there to begin with. I would really love to get rid of a whole bunch of my clothes right now, but I talk myself out of it by saying that eventually I'll wear them again. [lindsiko]
Mostly, we store them in cabinets until it fills up one or two boxes then hand it out for charity or give it to relatives and friends who would probably need it. Some of my friends put it up on garage sales. We also try torecycle old and damage clothes. turn them into house rags or the sort, but never just throw it away. I think that the best thing to do is either recycle it or danate it. [choybel]
I have a clear out twice a year and everything is sorted into three piles. The keep pile which I put back in the wardrobe, the sell pile which goes onto eBay and the charity shop pile which is taken to our nearest charity shop. [recycledgoth]
Whenever I have old clothes that are in good condition I give them to charity. I throw out anything that is in poor condition. Mostly, I end up giving away a lot of baby clothes and children's clothes, as the children grow out of them before they have a chance to get worn out. [DeenaD]
i dont sell them cuz i'd appear needy, i dont store them because it piles up and becomes clutter, i give them away, people would be thankful plus no clutter in my house and its a good deed [TAZNEM]
I used to give the childrens' old clothing to cousins who had younger children. Now we store them until we have time to have a yard sale and then we donate whatever is left over. [dawnald]
I give my old clothes to charity, usually the local Goowill. [Picquarian]
I try to ask my siblings if they want it or my nieces. The rest, I sell them at a recycling center and for those not sold, I give them to the church or garbage collector [sabrinafox89]
It depends on the condtion. If they are in near new, slightly worn condition I'll sell them on eBay or if I just don't have the time I'll donate them to goodwill for a tax writeoff. [smokeywins]
Well, my friend. When my old clothes are heaped up, I donate them to the poor people. Have nice day.niceday [faridmadeabillion]
hello ice, usually i take them all out and ask my siblings if they want any from it and what ever is left i keep to be given to natives in the mountains who comes down to the city during christmas time to ask for gifts. sometimes they bring goods from their place like and barter it with things here in the city. have you tried doing barter yourself? it is fun. annhappy [tigeraunt]
